You can also earn points by using the same card for purchases you make at retailers that are part of the program. There are gas stations, grocery stores, phone companies and restaurants that can be linked to this reward program. All the points at the end of the year can be used toward free stays at other hotels that participate in the program and normal travel expenses can add to your total also.
The most common reward program is the Hilton HHonors Platinum Card offered by American Express. With this program you get five points for every dollar you spend at Hilton hotels. Included in this program are drugstores, gas stations and the U.S. Postal service. This card as no annual fee and balance transfers can be made for the first six months.
